Law enforcement officers recently graduated from the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) class. The class began Monday, Aug. 29 and ran through Friday, Sept. 2, and consisted of two days at a shooting range, two days of hostage negotiation simulation, dynamic entry and clearing techniques and classroom work. Each SWAT school student was required to pass a firearm assessment and a written examination in order to graduate with SWAT certification.

Students came to the local course from various agencies across the southeastern U.S., including the Dyersburg Police Department, Dyersburg, Tenn., the Blue Grass Army Depot, Blue Grass, Ky., the National Rifle’s Association, Brooks County Sheriff’s Office, Quitman, Ga., Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrenceville, Ga., the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and Barrow County Emergency Services.

#4. When did the right to own a firearm get taken away? Yes they do have guns, but you can go and by your own unless your a convicted felon which by your feelings you express I would suspect you are.

Well that makes perfect sense.
I can only imagine how difficult it is to drive with donuts in both hands and powder sugar all up in your eyes.
Then again you probably have to stop and shoot a dog or a cow on the way.

I support the police as I used to be one, however, I think the deputies and police in our area need to be more trained in updated laws, interpersonal relations and modern police practices as the ones I have spoke to, do not have much sense about them and need more training in civil laws than SWAT training

Instead of making comments about what should be done and your vast years of experience why don't you offer your ideas to our local law enforcement to bring them as you state to the 21st century. I'm sure any Chief or the Sheriff would welcome any advice from such a knowledgable person such as yourself. How about you be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

Fortitude...you obviously didn't pay too much attention in the police academy because officers are NOT responsible for CIVIL CASES. We only assist to make sure nothing CRIMINAL occures. By law we are not really required to respond to civil issues. When was the last time you saw an officer arrest someone for having their house forclosed on. Seems to me you didn't last that long on Law Enforcement for very obvious reasons...as far as not needing SWAT TRAINING, tell that to the officers family who was killed trying to protect yours when your a victim of a home invasion or other serious crime..as far as for us not have " interpersonal skills" or "much sense". You really just proved in your post why sometimes we lack both....people like you

Well, lets see, you are required by law to assist in civil cases, who serves civil papers ? It is the responsibility of the Sheriff's dept to do so, also you have to respond if a citizen request you to do so. Have you not worked a private property accident ? That is on private property, yet you are required to respond and even complete a report if asked to do so.

If you are in LE, you will know that any "constructive" ideas that are brought to the department heads are typically shunned away, because the last thing someone wants to hear is a good idea that was not their own. Also, if SWAT was called out, things have already went down and if you have had any good SWAT training, a hostage entry is the last step, hence Cobb County SWAT fiasco where two went down trying to enter a standoff.

I was an instructor and supervisor, however, with year, I came to a conclusion that the department heads only surround themselves with those who are inferior to make sure they stay at the top and any threat to their job, by a person who knows more or takes the time to study updates are kept down in order to prevent any "job security" issues from the governing body. So, I found a job where my skills and expierence is needed and now make a very good living doing so.

I probably have more training, expierence and years of service than you Kidding, take this advice as constructive and not negatively, spend more time studying the updated codes and you will spend less time in court protecting yourself from lawsuits. Be safe and courtious and thank you for continuing to serve the citizens of Barrow County

is that really all that you can focus on? So what I have a very nice home and like everyone else, the value has dropped every year. So, is it worth it for me to pay $25k to break even, or wait a few years when the value comes back up and then sell ? I like my home, if I did not, I would not have spent the money on it. I have only mentioned that twice, when you and other "good ole boys" want to toss up how you like the county being ruined and ran into the ground and you dont have any bills because you have lived off your parents and failed to make anything of yourself and have nothing to show for it. Find something else to complain about instead of dwelling on the fact I have been blessed and have earned everything I own and have not needed to rely on what was given to me, grow up and move on it just shows your ignorance

well, since you like to say I "piss and moan" about the value of my home, you have pointed out before about you and your "good ole boys" living here forever. So, simple intuition would lead me to assume that you are atlest a second or third generation, if not life long resident, who has not moved on and prably kept the family land/house. Thus, after many years of living there you nor your dependents would have a mortgage to pay, only taxes. So, even if your a greeter at Wal-Mart, you could save over the years and have a nice bank account. I judge myself on putting myself through college and working full time, then using my work expierence to put me and my family in a position where they can have a nice home, in a good community and learn to share what they have and instill a good work ethic. Instead of them thinking that they are going to have handouts from my wife and I. That is my fortitude, being pursistant when things are against you. I do like my Ford Truck and if that many people are driving them, than I guess that means Ford is a good product. So, again, you and good ole boys, sit around and continue to support the joke of commissioners that you want to keep running this county, if you cared anything about Barrow, you would do something else than worry about bank accounts.

Your response about the Ford truck is downright silly; McDonald's is the most popular restaurant in the world. Is it the best? I mentioned your vehicle, since you are obviously the type who swallows the bait over any provocation -- no matter how minor. Dont know where you were employed as an officer, but your very wrong. No law enforcement agency is REQUIRED to make a private property accident report, we do as a favor to assit them with insur. claims. Just like we are NOT required to unlock doors but we do, not because we are required to but because it assists the citizen. PLEASE show me in ANY law book or Code book where it states that we are required by law to respond to civil matters. Did you ever help a repo man take a car when called out to keep the peace, nope, becouse you ( we) cannot. Unless ordered by a judge. As far as civil papers, your correct. the sheriff is required by law to run the jail and courts and serve civil papers, thats it..not patrol, respond to accidents or fights or anything else. As far as ideas being "shunned away" well not only do they not get shunned... but in my dept the officers vote on most decisions made as it pertains to their job or equipment. As far as my SWAT training, i headed a SWAT team as well as currently instruct new SWAT members at GPSTC, Meridean MS and Harris County Tenn. Henry County incident was a tragic mistake made by an over zealous supervisor. I am very current on case law and updates as it pertains to our job. As far as being in court on lawsuit...been in this career for 16 years and have been sued one time...that case was thrown out long before it entered the court room... someone trying to a lot of money for nothing and is currently in prison. I pride myself as being a professional, respectful officer (until its time not to be) and certainly have not taken anything you posted in a negative manner or personally.

I am the wife of a law enforcement officer. If the world was perfect, he would not have a job. He has been stabbed, shot at, gun pulled on him directly in his face and had people try to wreck him. He has been asked to climb trees to get down cats, fix mail boxes, fix flat tire and unlock doors.

It scares me to death to see the training the local police force feels it must have. My concern is since we don't currently use the military on our own people a plot was hatched to train the police to be exactly like the military. It's military but just with a different name. The police will tell you we need them to keep us safe. How many crimes are actually prevented? I think a bunch of old men have been watching too many Bruce Willis movies. It's too difficult to teach police to use reason and psychology and intelligence. It's much easier just to storm the Bastille and get the job done. I'd much rather a mild-mannered Barney get the wrong address than a hyped up squat team. I can reason with Barney. The squat team would shoot me dead as they were busting down my door - all by mistake. I'd feel safer with Barney in my neighborhood. I'd be safer with Barney.

I've never not felt safe at home at night and it has nothing to do with the fact that there's a police dept. out there it has to do with what's on the inside. By the time the cops are called it's already too late. I've never heard of a crime being prevented just copmmitted. And the only way to prevent that is to go back to publically displaying capital punishment. But another debate for another time. Maybe Insurgent can spell but not type.
