The Barrow County Department of Fire and Emergency Services recently conducted its first lieutenant promotional testing process under Chief Robert Post.
After all stages of the testing were completed, an eligibility list was established with firefighter/EMT Blair Darst placing first on that list. Darst was promoted to lieutenant on June 28.
“I am looking forward to working with Lt. Darst in his new position,” Post said. “His experience and training will serve this department and the citizens of Barrow County as he begins his new position.”
Darst has 25 years experience as a firefighter/EMT and has been with Barrow County for almost five years. During the last four years, Darst has also coordinated the six-member fire investigation team for the department. The team works with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office in investigating cases of arson in the county.
Darst has 13 years experience in fire investigations, including working for five years with Post in Gwinnett County while Post served as the chief investigator over Gwinnett’s investigation division.
Darst and his wife, Ashley, have three children, Devyn 13, Patrick 7, and Shennan 3 and are expecting a fourth in August.
Darst has been assigned to c-shift, where he will be in charge of the firefighters that work at Station 3 in Bethlehem.
