Texas governor wins straw poll at GOP BBQ

Municipal elections and a historic vote about the future management of the county’s government are less than six weeks away. But all eyes at a Saturday fundraiser for the Barrow County Republican Party were on what happens next year in Washington.

More than 100 local Republicans attended the 18th annual barbecue, which was held at the Winder Lions Club. They dined on barbecue catered by Shane’s Rib Shack and were entertained by the Yargo Community Band.

Party chairman Ken Young set the tone for the event by telling the crowd they knew they were in the right place if they thought President Obama should be given “a pink slip” next year.

Saturday’s GOP straw poll results

1. Rick Perry (TX): 38 votes (35.51%)
2. Herman Cain (GA): 32 votes (29.90%)
3. Ron Paul (TX): 10 votes (9.35%),
4. Mitt Romney (MA): 8 votes (7.48%),
5. Newt Gingrich (GA): 5 votes (4.67%)
6. [Tie] Michele Bachmann (MN) & Sarah Palin (AK): 2 votes each (1.87% each)
7. Tim Pawlenty (MN): 1 vote (0.935%)
Other - Jeb Bush (FL) - 1 vote (0.935%)
Undecided - 8 votes (7.48%),
Total Votes - 107

Pretty shallow comment anonymous. Maybe hes fed up with Obamas socialist,liberal,empty promises crap too. Or better yet, hes actually employed.(if the event was catered).
At least hes not sitting on his @ss with in the "quarters" fathering another illegitimate kid to a deadbeat mom so she can get another check and more foodstamps that I PAY FOR. So just maybe you should cut this guy some slack before you post ignorant stuff. Heres another shocker, it is ok to be black and republican too.

Once upon a time in America there were 6 day work weeks, 12 hour work days, no paid vacations, no overtime, no insurance, no paid holidays and child labor. Doctors and Dentists did not have to be licensed and patent medicines abounded. Then the Unions and Government regulations kicked in and forced Business and Medicine to accept regulation. Business in particular did not go quietly. They fought a 5 day work week, 8 hour day, paid vacations, paid holidays, and child labor elimination every step of the way.

"Socialism" was responsible for all of the above that tea-tards benefit from.

Perry wants to abolish the income tax, the Federal Reserve and direct election of US Senators. Not to mention a return to the gold standard. All crackpot notions. Like a vampire, he deserves to have a stake driven through his treasonous secessionist Texas pump.

Keep up with the right wing hate TickedOff. You are moving head fast into the year 1961 in the deep south. Can't argue that the only African-American at the event was the one serving the food. Sure, this man was doing his job but the fact that the Republican Party is made up of angry white males says a lot. Angry white males talking about how bad they've got it. Boo hoo. Poor white man in America. Don't fear though. It's still OK to speak out against Hispanics and gain political favor in your party. Maybe he was a volunteer and wanted to be a part of the republican BBQ. Maybe hes had enough of the sewage you are spewing. Save your 60s civil rights BS. American white males arent angry about how bad they ve got it, they are angry about being forced to redistribute their hard earned dollar to people of any color that are a drain on society. I know you find it hard to believe, but there are black people who are republicans and they too are tired of giving bed wetters like yourselves free rides. So after this weekend while your still feeling empowered after the King dedication, march your rear on over and cut my grass and we'll munch on some free watermelon and talk about when the next welfare check I m paying for will be in your mailbox.

Im against a communist, anti-business, big government, less than 200 day senator, who supports and endorses things like ACORN, scare monger black man being president. Beth, bring something to this discussion or stay out of it Beth. All you can do is either throw out oneliners give us some local gossip on a principals affair with a woman who you can't seem to reveal. This election is a hot button issue that merits more substance that you have brought to the table in any thread so far. At least my man lets me know where he stands. Hes behind Obama. The gentleman to whom you are referring is an active member of the Barrow County Republican Party and a volunteer at the picnic, as were the three less than angry white guys serving next to him. I know - I was one of them. Am I anxious to see Obama gone - you damn right, but I'm certainly not an angry white guy.

The title of this story is "Texas Governor wins Straw Poll at GOP BBQ". That is the topic. Your attempt to stray from legitimate dialogue on this subject, and try to turn it into some kind of racial issue is in poor taste, and is not appreciated, or wanted. If you must spew your racially motivated agenda, please do it elsewhere.
Speaking for myself as a Dist 2 Representative for the Republican Party here in Barrow County, I will not stand idly by while you attempt to discredit our Annual Summer BBQ event by injecting a ridiculous politically motivated "racial agenda" into the mix.

DOOOOOWAYNE, I can't believe I actually agree with for once. A Dist. 2 Rep, I am not sure about. Not sure if I want people to believe you actually represent anything in Barrow. Any luck on finding a job yet?
