Maysville man arrested for indecent exposure in Winder

A Maysville man was arrested last week after a La Luna employee called police when he saw the man masturbating behind the restaurant off Loganville Highway in Winder.

A Winder Police Officer found John Paul Smith, 30, of Deer Run, lying down on a concrete wall in some bushes covered in cuts and bruises, according to an incident report.

Prior to that call, the officer received another report in the same area of Winder for a white man wearing plaid shorts possibly masturbating behind the Community Mailboxes building, but the suspect fled before the officer could arrive to that location.

The employee told police he was on a break when he saw the man lurking behind the building. He approached him and asked what he was doing.

The man replied he was hiding from police. The employee told the man to leave and went back inside the building.

When the he came out again, he said he saw the same man in the parking lot hiding underneath the rear stairs of the building with his pants down masturbating while looking at people in the parking lot.

The officer received a positive identification from the witness stating that Paul was indeed the man he saw with his pants down.

Smith was arrested on charges of prowling and indecent exposure. He was taken to the Barrow County jail.
