Former county commission chairman Doug Garrison, hammered mercilessly by bloggers following last week’s announcement of his candidacy for a seat on the Winder City Council, now has some competition in that Ward 4 race.

Thirty-eight-year old Travis Singley, the owner of Outdoor Works landscaping, said Tuesday that he also is running for the open seat being vacated by Councilman Frank Dunagan.

“It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for years,” he said this week. “There are a lot of people who have been on there for a long time, and I’ve been waiting for someone to step down and retire.”

Singley has never run for public office, though he was active in the student government and in his fraternity at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. He also was a 1992 class president at Winder-Barrow High School.

UGA you are astupid SOB and about as lame as mark richt .didnt ga. southern beat the hell out of the bulldawgs last year? I know everybody from alabama south carolina and florida beat the hell out of you . learn how to field a team, learn how to cast a vote for someone who will better your town.

the big number is how many points were scored against UGA in the 2010 season, the small number is how many UGA was able to score against all opponents combined.

I don't know Singley or anything about him. He will get my vote before Garrison though. In fact I would vote for my dog before Garrison.

I have to agree with beth. Although I dont know Singley, and I dont live in the 4th ward of winder. The people need to come together and keep garrison out of public office so that he can do no more damage to our future.

Anybody but Doug! But watch out, the real estate folks are known for tossing in a few candidates to spread the voters, then Doug could take it in a runoff election, because they can get the entire builder/developer/real estate community to the polls. No apathy this time Winder, this is important! Doug will sell you down the river!!!!! Why else would Doug want the position? He did it with the BOE and the BOC, don't believe for a minute that his interests are for the benefit of the citizens of Winder. Get behind one candidate, and give them all you can.

I know Travis. He's a great guy!! For the record, he and his wife are in in the same business as Doug. They both are licensed realators. I believe that Travis just wants to make a difference. The county is being run badly now. Maybe a change would be for the good. Put someone younger in there, and see how it goes. You will never know until you try...Give him a try!!
