Three seriously injured in Ga. Hwy. 316 overturn Tuesday

An SUV carrying eight people swerved to miss another vehicle and overturned on Tuesday leaving three people hospitalized with serious injuries, the Georgia State Patrol reported.

The driver, a 35-year-old Clarkston man, was taken to Barrow Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Other serious injuries were reportedly sustained by an 18-year-old who was transported by life-flight to Grady Memorial Hospital and an 18-year-old who was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center.

According to Sgt. Al Whitworth of the Georgia State Patrol, the accident occurred just before 3 p.m. when the driver of a 2004 Ford pickup was in the crossover median in the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 316 and Harry McCarty Road as the driver of a 2003 Dodge Durango headed east on Ga. Hwy 316 .

The driver of the Ford tried to make a left turn onto Ga. Hwy. 316 to travel east pulling into the path of the Dodge. The Dodge swerved to its right and the driver lost control, traveling into the median before entering the roadway and overturning.
There was no contract between the vehicles.

Three additional passengers of the SUV were taken to Barrow Regional Medical Center with nonfatal injuries. Two other passengers were OK.

The report was made on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at approximately 2:56 p.m.
State patrol investigated and the Barrow County Sheriff's Office was also on scene.

Charges in the accident are pending.
