After getting used to its televised monthly voting sessions, the Winder City Council Tuesday night voted to begin televising its more substantive work sessions starting in October.
Councilman David Maynard broached the subject during Monday night’s meeting and asked that the topic be added to the agenda of Tuesday’s voting session. He said the city should make more use of its investment in the audio and video equipment being used to televise the voting sessions.
“I think we should televise this meeting,” he said. “This is more informative to people than our regular meeting.”
When Mayor Chip Thompson was asked Monday night where he stood on the issue, he begged off, telling the council that it would find out his position Tuesday night if he had to break a 3:3 tie on the matter. Thompson previously expressed reservations about televising council meetings.
But his tie-breaking vote wasn’t needed after all on Tuesday night. The vote was 6-0.
