The first day of a new school year is right around the corner and school leaders are expecting nearly 13,000 students when school doors open next week.
Barrow County students will start the 2011-12 school year Monday, Aug. 8, at 7:45 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. for elementary school students; 8:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. for high school students; and 8:35 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. for middle school. Preplanning for teachers began Aug. 2.
Last year, 12,500 students were registered in Barrow County Schools, while this year, 12,914 students are already signed up before registration last week, according to Barrow County School superintendent Wanda Creel, who provided the figures at a local chamber of commerce meeting Tuesday.
“We never know what’s going to happen when the first day comes, but it looks like our schools continue to increase and we’re excited to have each one of those children with us,” said Creel.

It is not fair in life, so it is the responsibility of our BOE to make sure that only Barrow Residents/citizens are allowed to use the service they pay for.
When your child has to pay for college, dont go crying because some illegal child received a grant and is debt free and your kid has to start life with student loans.
Freakin Liberals,
Don't forget the white folks...it's all not just the minorities!
