A new state law requiring locally elected officials to file campaign and personal financial information with the state could snag the wallets of several local office holders in the coming weeks.
The Georgia Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission has assessed $12,750 in fines to public officials or candidates in Barrow County who did not meet the first filing deadline for 2011 that was in March, according to the commission’s web site.
And unless they filed paper reports postmarked by July 1, another 17 local office holders could be facing similar fines for not having filed their annual Personal Financial Disclosure Forms on time.
For the full story and list of who may be fined, see the July 27 issue of the Barrow Journal online or in print.

The State was very late in getting the needed passwords and information to all of the officials in GA and this is a totally new way of reporting, so I am not surprised that there were many who filed late.
Let's cut them all some slack...in this instance.
All of this from the ethics commission person I spoke with yesterday.
I checked with the commission and it shows I didn't file the paperwork required by 10-25-2010.
I DID file the paperwork. I just spoke with the local elections office and was told all papers submitted were sent to the state and any errors were on the part of the state. Of course I have to wait for Ms. Ferm to return from lunch to verify the information.
I'm ticked!
The jig is up Tony. Pay up and get lost!
