Proposed district maps released

The Barrow County Board of Elections has launched the public input phase of the 2011 redistricting of county election districts.

Elections superintendent Katie Ferm distributed electronic copies of two proposed map versions last week and announced that poster-size print copies would be posted at seven locations around the county for public review through July 22.

In addition, a public hearing has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, in the commissioners meeting room at the county administration building on East Broad Street.

Looked at both proposed maps. I'll be moving districts. Of course, my next door neighbor won't be. Kind-of makes you wonder.

Is this the proposed map? If not, why aren't they posted on-line?

Keeping the circulation of the maps limited to viewing printed copies at a couple of locations is a great way to limit public concern and input by keeping a large segment of the public uninformed while still meeting the letter of the law.

Of course it is more likely the county staff simply doesn't have the technical expertise to post them to the web.

If they can post a photo on Facebook, they can upload a pdf to the County website.

Kinda nice that they give you a little over a week to speak on something like this. Good ol'BOC, none of them needs to be in office the next elections and if they are, Barrow will be in a world of hurt
