An Auburn man revived a 1950s era argument last week when he appealed to the Auburn City Council to eliminate fluoride in drinking water.
Chris Mullinnix took the floor during time for citizen comments at last week’s Auburn City Council meeting to appeal to the mayor and council to eliminate fluoride from drinking water.
“There is no medical benefit for it,” said Mullinnix. “It negatively impacts us all and I see it as an opportunity to be the first county in Georgia and lead by example.”
In rebuttal, Robert Fox, a class one operator who is state licensed to check water quality and conducts surveys for the city of Auburn, said the Center for Disease Control (CDC) says putting fluoride in the water is a great achievement, and fluoride-induced water is state and federally recommended, as well as recommended by the health department and the dental association.
“I totally disagree,” said Fox. “The city of Auburn purchases our drinking water. We do not put fluoride in our water. We buy our water from the Barrow County Water Authority, but it is actually treated at Bear Creek Water Treating Plant.”
Fox said the results of testing he conducted on Mullinax’s residence found that water from his sink had trace amounts of fluoride at .74 parts per million, as opposed to Crystal Spring bottled water, for example, which tested for .45 parts per million of fluoride.
“Over the past ten years a large body of peer-reviewed science has raised concerns that fluoride may present unreasonable health risks, particularly among children, at levels routinely added to tap water in American cities.”

Personally, I ended up in 3rd stage kidney disease before I realized that fluoride worsens weak kidneys and even can CAUSE kidney disease. I got off fluoridated water AND green and black teas which are high in fluoride, and in 4 months my kidney functioning improved by 90%. That's huge. No fluoride, no kidney dialysis.
The National Kidney Foundation stated that people with reduced kidney function should avoid fluoride. In 2006 the National Research Council said that people with lowered kidney function should avoid fluoride.
I have the right to make that decision about my own body. Fluoride does not belong in the public water supply. It's a matter of self determination, of personal choice.
Yeah, Athens was one of the earliest communities in the nation to luoridate its water and look at what's happening there - its a safe Democratic place.
But, hey, you don't have to drink the water. Fill up on bottled water. Knock yourself out.
Fringe goofballs who can't live without a crusade.
I read about the symptoms of ,what amounts to flouride poisoning, and me and most of the people that I know have many of these .
Im going to conduct a little experiment at my house over the next few months and see what happens to those symptoms when we cut our flouride usage.
I will let folks know how that turns out.
