At the age of 67, Winder Housing Authority resident Shirley Stinson said she “never dreamed” she’d own her own home.

But, thanks to a recent partnership between the WHA and Action, Inc. of Athens, Stinson moved on Memorial Day from her one bedroom WHA apartment to a four bedroom, two bath home she now owns on Lily Drive in Winder.

“It feels good,” Stinson said. “They (people at the WHA and Action) went over and above to help make this happen, and now, here we are. We’re really enjoying settling in.”

Stinson had been in a one bedroom WHA apartment for two and a half years when she “took custody” of her 16-year-old granddaughter. When her 21-year-old granddaughter asked if she could move in, too, because she was expecting her second child, Stinson said she didn’t know what she would do.

“There was no bigger apartments open and we couldn’t stay in that one bedroom,” she said. “Then, they told me about this new program they were starting up and asked if I wanted to be in it and I said, ’Sure.’ It’s a good thing, too. With two granddaughters and two great-grandbabies, I’ve got a houseful.”

WHA Executive Director Michelle Yawn said the program began as a directive she received “from her board” shortly after she was hired in August of 2009.

“It was clear they were very interested in qualified residents being able to achieve home ownership,” she said. “So, we took it from there.”

Maybe the granddaughter should be neutered instead of pumping out babies that she cant afford. And does "Achieve home ownership" mean tax payers bought it while she and her grand daughter sit on their duffs?

To clarify: there were NO tax payer dollars used. The homeowner and the WHA worked with Action (a non-profit, non-tax-funded corporation) to help this woman do the paperwork to qualify for a bank loan to get a house she could afford. Then a realtor helped her find one and buy it. This is a win-win, because she moved out of a government subsidized housing authority apartment into a privately mortgaged home.

If there is anything tea-tards and Republicans can't stand it's poor people owning anything. They've been screaming "Socialism!" since Woodrow Wilson occupied 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Never mind that paid vacations, five-day work weeks etc. came about when robber barons were forced to capitulate to things most now take for granted. So, let the lady have her home, and bottle the fascism.

Tea Tards and Republicans crying about the poor owning anything ? Well if the lady cannot figure out how to apply for a loan she can afford, then have the sense to find a home in her budget, then I wonder how quickly she will learn about maintenence, utility bills and even taxes ! I wish everyone would own a home and contribute to this county instead of using it, but it looks like her family has more important things to do, like have babies they cant afford because tax payers pay her medical bills. That is what I dont get, cant afford to take care of yourself, bring in another life and then expect others to pick up your tab

If you have not achieved something yourself, through hard work, diligence and sacrifice.
Then it holds no value for you.
If it holds no value for you, then there is no incentive to respect and care for what has been GIVEN to you.
This place will be dump and an eye-sore within 2 years.
Here you have 3 generations of women fully entrenched in the moocher class.

Poverty is a mental disease and the welfare system is nothing but soft-slavery.

So according to your view all these spoiled brats living off the backs of their parents and grandparents should be cut off? After all, they didn't earn it, they inherited it so it hold no value to them. Could explain why so many of the local farms are being sold to developers to turn into empty subdivisions. Jr. saw no value in the land and the developer didn't have daddy's business sense....

Since you cannot see it. If a person with their money wants to support lazy grandchildren then that is their right. When my money goes to support lazy grandchildren of someone else that is another story. No matter what side of the aisle you are on, any honest person has to recognize a generational welfare class has been created.

Its not about hate...thats a thought terminating cliche used by liberals to end the debate.
They think it gives them the moral high ground.

What it is, is about people who refuse to earn thier own way through life.
When I step up to societies table, I bring skills, education and a strong work ethic.
And so do a lot of other folks.
But then there are some in society who bring nothing to the table but an hand-out saying
"gimmie or you own me".
And as you can tell from the above story it is generational.

You and I are where we are because of decisions we have made. Good or bad, they are the decisions we've made and must live with.

Having children out of wed-lock is not a good decision...period.

This country and society owes no-one anything.
What this great country does offer is opportunity. Opportunity to succede or to fail.

The choice is yours to be made.

As far as being a church attending christian.
No Thanks.
Well you can blame the church for all the poverty in this world.
After all does'nt the bible promote the virtues of poverty.
Did not your saviour die like a prisoner, arrested, humiliated and tortured, then put to death.

We dont have "serious hate issues". Numerous surrounding jursdictions have a seperate Sub-Police Station just for gov. housing, That should tell you something. I do, however think that not all Gov. housing is what people may think it is. There are a lot of families that have lost their homes, cars and jobs and need a cheep place to live. But there are mostly lazy people who want handouts that we are paying for in the long run so they dont have to go get a job.

I love how libtards scream hate when they are called on their scam. As much as they disgust me with their retoric Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are right along with a few others. The Goverment did introduce crack into the black and impovershed communities. I am not saying crack as in ROCK, I am saying Crack the government subsidies. Liberals defend this to keep their power base. You Ms. Sinn-Clark can say no tax payer dollars were used, however I find it hard to believe that she being in need of any help to find a home had the proper down payment amount to receive a non- govt. Backed/ funded loan. As long as we give subsidies we will never help the poor rise up and find true success in this country. There is a moocher class in this country and it is sad, Why do these people not want to do better for themselves? Right here we have three generations coming from govt. Housing looks like this cycle of no less than 40 years can't be blamed on the economic down turn. Give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish he will eat for a lifetime, give a man a welfare check he will throw the nets in the water and never work again.

As society slowly collapses, and it is collapsing, just read the news any day. And as society crumbles so will your entitlements.
