Three weeks after the Barrow County Board of Commissioners canceled a contract with Moreland Altobelli Associates Inc. for work on the future West Winder Bypass, sources say BOC chairman Danny Yearwood has not sent the company the required written notification of the cancellation of the 2005 contract.
At stake is more than $1.6 million in remaining funding on the $2 million contract.
The BOC on June 14 voted unanimously to end the six-year-old contract and to issues new requests for proposals in order to try to cut engineering and right-of-way acquisition costs.
While the 2005 agreement allows the county to cancel the agreement for its “convenience,” the document says the cancellation is effective upon written notification of the company.
According to county emails obtained this week, county engineering manager Darrell Greeson emailed copies of a draft notification letter to both Yearwood and operations development manager Bob Hohe on June 21.

Wonder how much this is going to cost the taxpayers.
