Some day soon, Dot and Larry Jones are going to wake up to a day where they have absolutely nothing planned. After 63 years in business, first at Larry’s Easy Pay, then at Larry’s Furniture, with the spin-off of Larry’s Recap Shop (still in business on Midland Ave. as Bob’s Tire), they have decided to close their store, which is a downtown Winder institution. They are in process of selling off the inventory and when that is done, they will retire.
“We don’t have a date and we don’t have a plan,” Jones said, emphasizing that he and Dot will remain at their posts as fixtures in the store until all of the merchandise is sold.
Dot, Jones’ wife of 65 years, admitted that she is “a little worried” about how Larry will take to retirement and “not going to the store every day,” but she remains hopeful and is looking forward to this new phase in their life together.
“I think we’ll start with some time at the lake house and just take it from there,” she said, with her characteristic warm and mischievous smile.
