The Barrow Journal was honored as one of the state’s top weekly newspapers by the Georgia Press Association last week.
The Journal finished second in the GPA’s Better Newspaper Contest in overall General Excellence for its division, one of the highest honors for a newspaper in the state.
The Journal brought home four first place awards, including Best Sports Section, Best News Photo, Best Serious Column and for the second year in a row, Best Editorial Writing.
In addition, the Journal finished second in Best Sports Writing and third in Best Sports Photo.
“I’m very proud the Journal has been recognized for its coverage of Barrow County,” said co-publisher Mike Buffington. “To be named among the state’s best newspapers is a very high honor."

You do a good job reporting and keeping opinion separated from fact, and Mike's editorial's have been quite balanced and well written. These things are appreciated.
As any late night talk show host will admit, jokes come easy these days with the politicians we have. Although you are in the news business and not the joke business, Barrow certainly has an over abundance of news made by the jokers that are leading us...off a cliff.
Keep up the good work!
It's time we had editorial content that addressed the issues, and the Journal and Mike Buffington have stepped into the realm to deliver timely thoughts and opinions.
Good work to the entire staff.
