A Gainesville attorney representing a 23-year-old Winder man filed a civil suit last week alleging that Barrow County Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to a suspicious activity call beat the man unnecessarily. The suit alleged that officers beat Christopher Jordan McDaniel to a black-out state in the front yard of his parents’ house and refused to provide him with necessary medical treatment in June of 2009.
Sheriff Jud Smith could not comment on the lawsuit, but stated in an email Tuesday that the department’s defense attorneys plan to vigorously pursue the allegations to the fullest.
In the Sheriff’s deputy’s report, responding officer Arnold reported that he and Deputy Hunnicutt arrived to an “unsafe and hostile” situation outside the Arnold home on Jefferson Highway June 7, 2009 with several people crowding around McDaniel, who was “extremely intoxicated and combative,” the deputy wrote.

Pro-bono means "for the public good", and is generally used to describe professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment as a public service. Thats is usually why they claim to file these frivolous lawsuits, although we all know it's really only about the money. From the racist (rasist, racist, however you spell it) NAACP website:
The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination...blah, blah, blah.
Ironically, that comes right after the statement "The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a civil rights organization for ethnic minorities in the united States..."
I would hate to be a cop and deal with crap like this. I'm sure they only did what was necesary to control the guy and the situation. And even if they did go overboard, how about not being a drunken idiot? It wouldn't have happened in the first place if he wasnt acting stupid enough to have the cops called in the first place.
People need to grow up and hold themselves accountable for their own ignorant actions.
Sunday's will soon be like friday night at the american legion.
The people should band together and vote down sunday alchol sales or the disrespect that this young man has shown for his family , his community and for himself will grow in ever incresing numbers ., as more and more dunken slobs take it upon themselves to act any ol wayt they want to regardless of consequences.
get a leg up in 2012.
If you're gonna be a drunken idiot that's cool. Just at least accept responsibility for your actions. Good for the cops for trying to beat some sense into the dummy. I'm sure the guy has a drinking problem but instead of focusing on that his family is probably fired up about how he was treated. it's only adding fuel to the fire.
I suppose the question then is who should be doing the beating. probably not the cops because of their propensity to go too far and involve the local govt. in a law suite ike this one . probably not the families of the drunkards because they are usually either too afraid of the drunk to do anything or too sympathetic. Hmmm, I wonder what kind of organization could do something like that for the people?
If I was the defendant in this case - I would counter this lawsuit for Defamation of Character.
Obviously, this lawsuit is a deseperate attempt to receive compensation for consequences Mr. McDaniel clearly deserved...
