A Barrow County family barely escaped a house fire Thursday morning thanks to assistance from passers-by who stopped and rendered aide.
Authorities began receiving 911 calls about the fire at 8:06 a.m. indicating that people were still inside the burning home.
“If it were not for the heroic efforts of people like Britani Allison and Brent Leach, the outcome could have been much worse,” said Lt. Rob Nowakowski with Barrow County Emergency Services.
Allison, of Bogart, was reportedly driving with her children when she saw the flaming home at 715 Hog Mountain Road. People outside the residence alerted her that a child was still inside.
“When I entered the house, it was very hot and the smoke was so thick I could not see my hands or feet,” said Allison, when interviewed by department personnel. “My adrenaline was pumping and I did what I would expect someone to do for me.”
After nearly five minutes in the house, Allison was able to find the child and carry her from the burning house. There, she cared for her until emergency personnel arrived. Alison was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to an area hospital by Barrow County Emergency Services.
When Leach, of Watkinsville, drove by, he reportedly saw Allison carrying the child outside and stopped to offer assistance. He was told that a female was still inside. He entered the rear of the residence and searched for the female until he could not stand the smoke and heat any longer. As he exited the burning house, he learned the female had made it out, emergency services reported.
Four people were transported to an area hospital, with one child later being transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The family will be in need of many donations. I hope that the generosity, care, dedication, support, and determination demonstrated this morning will continue to be displayed by other community members into the days, weeks and months ahead as the family heals and needs our continued support!
Great job to the firemen and rescue workers who arrived on scene and took care of the family members and the first responders!!! Britany and Brent are true HEROES and angels among us!!!
I am so thankful to have moved to this area and to have seen the love and care displayed by all today!
Continued prayers and thoughts to the family!!!

I was at the fire that morning and the event was full of many details and an aweful lot of chaos. What truly matters is that everyone is safeand received the medical attention they needed.
I would like to ask if you or other family members are you able to explain in these comments how the community could be helpful to you and your family? What kinds of things does your family need and where could those things be donated?
Thank you and prayers and thoughts continue to be sent to your family!
Nikki
Thank you for the update and I think about Trinity every day.
Can you specifically list the things that your mother, daughters or niece need?
Do they need clothing? Money? Furniture? Games? Gift cards to specific places? I'm just making things up as examples, but with more specific information, and a location where things can physically be donated I think more people would help out. Are you all affiliated with a church accepting donations for you?
I called the Red Cross and 211Connect and neither agency could tell me what your family needed.
Continued prayers and any updates about Trinity would be greatly appreciated! She is clearly meant to be on this earth as her life has been saved twice in four years!
