The Charter Review Committee has only three weeks to complete its review of the state legislation collectively known as Barrow County’s charter.
That committee has held two public hearings in Auburn and Bethlehem, and two more are planned over the next week.
The third public hearing is at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Statham City Hall, 327 Jefferson St.
The fourth public hearing will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the Ace Hardware at 3740 Village Way in Braselton.
The final public hearing will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the county administration building.
The Charter Review Committee is scheduled to present its recommendations to the BOC on June 14.
OTHER GROUPS
Two other citizens committees appointed by the Barrow County Board of Commissioners are meeting this week.
The Unified Development Code Committee will have its kickoff meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, in the second-floor conference room of the county administration building at 233 E. Broad St. in Winder.
That committee is to review areas of the development code that need further clarification – such as for yard sales or personal care homes – and also to recommend whether some UDC requirements governing development should be relaxed.
The 10 people on that committee are planning commissioner Joe Goodman, Jon Greeson, former commissioner and county attorney Bill Healan, John Chaney, retired code enforcement official Charles Sewell, Rick Matthews, Jerry Maynard of Maynard & Bartlett Realty Group, Danny Rampey of the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce, Tony Trusty of the Barrow County Builders Association, and Trip Lanthier of Winder-Barrow Realty.
A representative of the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission and Rebecca Whiddon, the supervisor of the county’s Department of Planning and License & Permits, are to facilitate the committee’s meetings and review.
PERSONNEL COMMITTEE
The Personnel Policy Committee will have its first meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in the same large conference room in the county administration building.
The appointees to that committee are Perry Barton, Allyson Summerour, Robert Latham, Gail Rysinski, Len Cooper, Rebecca Farrow and county clerk Michelle Sims. A representative from the regional commission also will facilitate that committee’s meetings and review of the policies affecting county employees.
