The second annual “Defenders of Freedom Ride” is a motorcycle tribute ride through downtown Auburn on Saturday, May 2, from 10-1 p.m. and will end will a ceremonial tribute for two families.
The ride is sponsored by the American Veterans Post 12 and is in memory of two area fallen U.S. Marines- Lance Cpl. Ryan Geise from Barrow County and Lance Cpl. Raymond Johnson from Walton County.
The mothers of Geise and Johnson will receive a special surprise following the ride that event planners expect to be a moving one.
“Both Marines were killed in the last year,” said Walker. “That really brings it home.”
Last year, the American Veterans Post 12 started the group with 108 bikers and is now hosting Saturday’s ride.
This year, coordinators anticipate 200-300 riders, said Walker.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the ride will officially kick off at 10:15.
It should be over at approximately 12-12:30 p.m., said Walker. At 1 p.m., the ceremony to the two families will begin. The ride is open to the public. Preregistration is available at
