On April 27, two Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a report of a possible hand grenade found in the back yard of a residence located at 587 Hoyt King Road in Bethlehem.
When police arrived, the owner took them to the backyard and showed them what appeared to be an old hand grenade that was rusted and covered in dirt.
Two more deputies were dispatched to the scene and the University of Georgia Bomb Disposal Unit was called to come remove the object.
When the Bomb Disposal Unit arrived, they determined that the suspected hand grenade could be disposed of on the scene using a small explosive charge, which completely destroyed the grenade.
