Winder city officials today kicked off the public budget process for fiscal year 2012.
Fifteen meetings with department heads are scheduled by Friday on the second floor of the city’s Cultural Arts Center, and all of them are open for the public to observe.
The meeting with the Planning and Development director was held at 11 a.m. today, and today’s meeting with the director of the Community Center had to be rescheduled. The rest of the meetings this week are scheduled as follows:
• Gas Department: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
• Water: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
• Meter Readers: 10 a.m. Wednesday.
• WTV21: 11 a.m. Wednesday.
• Fleet Maintenance: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
• Police: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
• Fire: 10 a.m. Thursday.
• Public Works: 11 a.m. Thursday.
• Utility Billing: 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
• Cultural Arts: 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
• Finance: 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
• Human Resources: 1:30 p.m. Friday.
• Community Center: to be announced.
Following those meetings, the administration will finalize the budget numbers and make the draft available for public review on May 16, when it is presented to the Winder City Council.
On the same day, the budget document will be posted online at the city’s web site, www.cityofwinder.com and can be reviewed at Winder City Hall weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Print copies are available at a cost of 25 cents per page or a CD will be available for purchase for $2, according to a press release.
In addition, the mayor and council will have two public meetings to discuss the budget. Both of the meetings – on Thursday, May 19, and Thursday, May 26, will begin at 5 p.m. and be held at the Winder Community Center.
The council is scheduled to adopt the Fy2012 budget during its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 7.
The city’s new fiscal year begins July 1.
