Carl Mayor David Brock swore in the town’s first police officer Thursday, April 21, at a town council meeting.
Officer Terry Raber, 61, was specially appointed by Governor Nathan Deal on the recommendation of Brock, the town council and Rep. Terry England (R-Auburn).
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith also wrote a letter to the governor recommending Raber for the appointment.
Due to the growth of Carl and the declining economy, the mayor and town council wanted to provide more safety and security for the businesses and citizens of Carl.
This appointment will allow the Town of Carl the opportunity to obtain state and federal grants, which they were unable to apply for before. Raber has served as the town marshal since 2004 and will begin his duties as police officer immediately, as well as continue to fulfill his code enforcement duties.
“I’ve always enjoyed my job,” Raber said.
Jimmy, it sounds to me that you have nothing else better to do then to question Carl's decision to hire a police officer. Do you really think that the Governor was going to appoint a NON POST certified officer? Also, if you know so much about "open records" and are so concerned, why don't YOU go file on open records request or is it not really a concern and you really DON'T have nothing else better to do.HMMM your right inquiring minds do want to know, only its just your mind that wants it.
Sometimes people position themselves to acquire power when they see no one else is in that role. Will the power go to his head? Only time will tell. I hope not.
