A man became upset with a Winder Police Officer last week over a window tint charge.

A man with questionable tint on his windows was pulled over by an officer to check the legality of the tint. The officer determined that the tint was too dark, so he wrote a citation.

As the officer was attempting to explain the citation to the driver, the man became agitated and angry that he had been stopped for such a reason. He stated that he had had the same window tint for years and had never been stopped for it before.

The officer advised the man that by him signing the citation, he was not admitting guilt. The driver then took the officer’s ticket book and began reading the citation. The officer asked if the man had any questions about the citation, and requested that he sign the form. The driver signed the citation and then drew several lines through the signature.

When he tried to hand the pen back to the officer, if fell down beside his seat. The driver retrieved the pen and threw it out the window. The officer advised the driver to step out of the vehicle. When the man refused, the officer took hold of the man’s wrist and helped him get out of the car. The man then began being sarcastic with the officer, asking several times, “what, are you going to hit me?”

At the driver’s request, the officer contacted his father to come and remove the vehicle. While waiting for the man’s father to arrive, the man told the officer that he knew he was misbehaving, but he’d had a long day.

After the father arrived to retrieve the vehicle, the man was transported to BCDC where he was charged with window tint violation and obstruction.

"NO", the lesson to be learned is you act ignorant you're going to be treated that way especially by law enforcement.If this subject was respectful, mature, not provoking then his outcome sure would have been different but i guess its still the officers fault for being disrespected and doing his duty..

What an idiot and come on Winder, window tint ? really, thats kinda sad, if he is not wanted and his DL and Insurance checks out, why not use some descretion. Now this guy sounds like he was a jackwad, so he deserved it, but for any regular citizen, I hope ya'll dont enforce that crap as most cops window tints are waaay to dark

Maybe he could've used "discretion." However, I wouldn't scream at WINDER cop over this incident, since prohibition of dark window tint above a certain % is a matter of state law. It's a privilege to drive, and one is not entitled to motor around darkened unto pitch, concealing all matter of weapons, dope, deviant behavior and whatnot from a duly deputized officer of law executing a simple traffic stop.

Why can cops have blacked out windows but the average person can't? I didn't know that everyone that tints their windows is a criminal. Must explain why cops do it! This way no one can see them sleeping or messing around with 18 year old girls...

What about the officers of both the BCSO and WPD talking on cell phones every day I meet them in the road. Or better yet pulling people over in the McDonalds parking lot and blocking the drive thru and drive around. as if we don't have enough traffic issues already. But tint violations are more important than all these uninsured illegals we have that don't know how to operate a vehicle or navigate a 4 way stop.

Most people know that the crack dealers all have tinted windows so that noone especially the cops can see inside.So maybe he figured he caught himself a crack head and if he had of then our idiot DA and some panty waited judges could then give him a much lighter sentence than what he will get for being a smart.

So what EXACTLY does a crack dealer look like know it all? I mean since you already know maybe you can escort the cops around and snag all of them at once and be done with it! Would it bother you if they pulled your granddaughter over and "searched" her? What about the rest of your family? You ok with random searches of property? I mean you preach George Washington and founding fathers and southern state's rights and yet you are ok with illegal searches which were PRECISELY one of the things we broke away from the United Kingdom for.
I do support the police I simply don't support hypocrites that pull a "criminal" over for a dreaded foul tint violation while sitting in a car with even darker tint.

If you dont like the laws, get them changed. In the meantime I say ENFORCE it! They put that law on the books so cops dont get hurt by idiots who want to fight the police. Actually I work for a large PD in GA where we are too busy responding to calls(real crimes) to pull people over for a BS violation. Our cars don't have limo tint and neither does my personal car. I also don't pull people over for speeding as I am too busy 'speeding' from call to call to call. I think it is hypocritical for cops to pull over someone with dark tint while using taxpayer money to do the same thing. As for 'officer safety'; I think that I'd rather have the better visibility of no tint so I can see it coming whether it is another motorist, a criminal, or a kid that just wants to see a police car. On that same note, if we have our windows tinted so that the 'badguys' can't figure out where we are in the car: I am probably in the driver's seat.
This is just like the seatbelt law. Why shouldn't I have to wear mine just because I'm at work? We all know it is safer but for some reason I get exempted because why?
Tint violations are a spirit of the law versus letter of the law issue. The intent of the law was so that if I see a car weaving on a saturday night I have the ability to do a DUI stop, These local cops seem to use it as a money making scheme. Same thing as Pendergrass, Arcade, Jefferson. Small town, small minded, bored policemen harrassing people instead of working FOR their community.

Yes, window tint. It just allows the officers to go on a fishing expedition to look for said dopers... Otherwise, the officer wouldn't have had a right to pull the man over, unless of course he was breaking some other traffic law.

If the guy wouldn't have opened his big mouth, he wouldn't have been arrested.

Those of you who complain about officers should really get a life. Why dont you go out there and risk your life for 30,000 a year. Why dont you hold the baby in your arms while he/she takes their last breath, unable to revive them. Why dont you get into a foot chase and go around a corner not knowing if the person you are chasing has a gun and is going to shoot you. Why dont you put yourselves in these officers place and see what its like to be brav and compassionate. Why dont you see what its like to risk your life for a stranger and their family, not knowing if you will be going home to yours that day. Dont hate an officer for doing his job. Hate the lawmakers that made the laws. That is all. Have a nice day.

If they don't like the pay and the potential risks, then get another job and stop whining about how they are: underpaid, underappreciated, underloved (except by girls who want their tickets torn up), and underfed (except when the HOT light is on at Krispy Kreme).
Underhanded is more accurate.

Here's a tip to cops: Let your hair grow and stop pretending you're still in the army. Cops are civilians -- not military (even though they think they are).

Do the cops not know the job requirements and what the job paid BEFORE BEING HIRED? I have heard that lame cry about being shot at and putting their life in harms way all my life ... and they only get 30K. Damn if I would do that for only 30K. They mostly do it because that CAN NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE. If it is that bad of a job ... QUIT, STOP CRYING how you are protecting us. I have never complained about the pay I recieve and I have never been compensated for being on a tactical unit. I do my job because I love what I do. I do agree with the above about things that I have seen and every night I thank God for the things I was able to stop during my shift. For the readers of this paper that are educated as I am, I would like to let you know that the people writing the negative comments above are the ones that use up 99% of your law enforcement budget. They are the ones that insult us and degrade us and then on friday night when they get that third or fourth old milwaukee down and they deciede that their 5ft 10in 140 pound frame is tough enough to take on that nice and healthy "ol lady". When they get thrown out onto the dilapadated porch that their home is parked next to, they call the police. By the time the police arrive they have downed number six. About that time they have gotten to the crying phase of ingnorant drunkard. Then you get to go inside and take statements from both sides and you get to see what they have eaten for dinner for the last three months because it is still sitting in the sink and flowing over to the counter where the cat is using the sink for a litter box. Maybe i could do more with a college education, but when I call DFACS and watch them take the poor neglected child out of that hole they have suffered in it makes my low wage not a big factor. Hope you enjoyed the true depiction of the ones above insulting the police. And understand pay is not everything it is the reward.

Thank you so much for writing what you did. I am at work and was just reading for entertainment and read your comment. I laughed so hard. I do not live in Barrow county but do have the pleasure of working here and dealing with the locals as do you. I know what I see everyday is nothing camapared to you guys but we get a good laugh here at the office from the some of the people in this town. Wow what a hero, I would love to see you go through the hiring process that cops have to, sounds to me you would not make it past the application process, never mind the polygraph, psych test background and drug test,and that's just the beginning. Well WOW I made 118k last year doing honost work. Bet you did not make that. Cry me a hand full about what you have to pass to be a officer. Two weeks later you couldn't pass the same tests. Then you go out and break more laws than the people you are trying to catch. You can't catch anybody unless someone calls you and tells you who did it. A respectable job being a cop ... NOPE! I am sure you are proud of your education. We all are. Yours is no more important to you than mine is to me. I have degrees in electronics, communications and engineering myself. But that does not ensure I have all the answers. We need to stay on topic and work together to solve problems not call names and argue back and forth. Most people don't give a RIP what education you or I have. I do not know why everybody thinks just because they have an education they are smart. I have seen many educated idiots in my life. Well you know what they say law enforcement haters.."Opinions are like A%%holes, everybodies got one"..There are laws to enforce people,"ALL LAWS" not the ones you all think should and should not be enforced cause you feel one is less of a violation than the other and then whine and argue back in forth like children..Folks please grow up realizing our law enforcement is enforcing "state law & city ordinances"!So quit complaining as its their sworn duty to do so!!Case in point before you complain realize these folks put there lives on the line every shift so we can sleep better at night, have safe roads, have a safe work place etc. etc.Those whom take their safety for granted provided by our law enforcement need to trade places for a week and then lets see what opinions they may have then..Thanks be to J.B.
