Where is BOC budget going?

Silence is said to sometimes speak loudly. If so, the Barrow County Board of Commissioners is shouting.

At Tuesday night’s BOC meeting, Chairman Danny Yearwood again talked about the idea of raising the millage rate 2 mills in order to cover debt service on the bonds issued by the Winder-Barrow County Industrial Building Authority and the Joint Development Authority of Winder-Barrow County.

The two debts for land purchases, approved by the previous BOC, created $30 million in long-term debt for the county and that debt was secured by the county’s tax digest.

“It would be only for that debt,” Yearwood said Tuesday night of the new taxes. “It couldn’t go to the General Fund.”

But Yearwood’s comments were met with silence by the rest of the board.

At issue is a nightmare financial picture the county faces as it moves toward FY2012. The IBA-JDA debt is just one part of a complicated financial problem, yet while the board was active over the last two years in its finances, the BOC has so far stayed away from discussing the county’s budget.

No budget committee has been formed and no additional budget meetings are scheduled.

Well, this is what happens to a community when stupid people get to vote. They elect some one like danny yearwood, who is not even a natural borned citizen of Barrow County, in fact he may be a yankee.
He has done nothing since his election except tear down barrow County , if someone set out to intentionally destroy our county then they would have done the same things that Yearwood has done.
We have an election coming up next year and you people need to start now closely examining this guy and anyone else that might be considering running for the office.
Its time to send yearwood back to whereever he came from and let him know that his kind are not wanted here at leadt in a elected office.

Well it is pretty obvious to the rest of us that you ARE a natural "borned" citizen of Barrow County LOL I do not think being a "yankee" disqualifies you for elected positions here in your precious county. As to being from "whereever" you better be thankful that some of us DID move here, to help pay for the messes that you "good ole boys" with your "good ole boy" mentality have made!

Boy, thats just not true . Yearwood is the only one playing yall for fools.
Now I will admit that the obama-Trump thing got me started to thinking...What is he hiding, what would any politician be hiding? why would someone set out to totally destroy Barrow County?Maybe he is not really one of us.
My research has shown so far that there are serious questions as to Yearwoods origins.
This is all going to come out in the election if he doesnt "come out" now.

Mad Monkey, I do not agree with your Republican spill ... however I do agree with your agreement. Why not sell the land bought at the airport for expansion? They are ways ... it just would cause the lazy bums some work. Why haven't the BOC take a pay cut? They ask everybody else to suffer, where is theirs?

Sure. You know how fast real estate is selling these days. Let's just sell it and get our money for it. It was, what, $50K per acre or so, right? You know, property has been selling so fast, right? Everybody wants to buy property, right?

I just read in an on-line blog where Jack Legg trounced Yearwood in a straw poll somthing like 1000 to 1.Im gonna vote for Jack Legg in 2012 he is just what the county needs to get us moving forward again, enough of this never ending stalemate that the current commisioners have left us with.
