For the first time in its budget discussions for FY2011-2012, the Barrow County Board of Education this week seriously discussed a possible tax hike.
The board will again discuss its budget next Tuesday at its regular meeting scheduled for 6 p.m.
BOE member Dan Cromer said “facing the issue” of having to raise the millage rate needed to be discussed.
“We can't ignore the welfare of the taxpayers of Barrow County, but our first priority is the welfare of the students,” Cromer said. BOE member Connie Wehunt echoed that idea.
“If you want too educate these kids, we're going to have to go up,” she said of the millage rate. “I own property in Barrow County and I'm going to educate these kids.”
