In celebration of Easter, local churches are hosting a variety of services and events this week. Among the upcoming events are:
Community Holy Week, April 18-22
The Winder First United Methodist Church will host Community Holy Week Services at noon in the sanctuary and 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. A complimentary sandwich lunch and dinner are offered after each service.
Thursday, April 21: Father Leo Holleran , St. Matthews Catholic Church, is the noon speaker. A Resurrection Eggs Event will be that evening preceding the Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Services at 8 p.m.
Friday, April 22: Rev. Alfred Hazel, White Oak Spring Baptist Church, will speak at noon. There will be no evening speaker.
Speakers earlier in the week were: Rev. Terry Tippens, WFUMC, April 18 at noon and Rev. John Talley, First Baptist Church Winder, at 6;30 p.m. Tuesday speakers were Rev. Talley, noon and Rev. Alfred Hazel at 6:30 p.m.
Maunday Thursday Services, April 21
Bethlehem First United Methodist Church: 7 p.m. at the BFUMC Cemetery.
Tenebrae Services, Friday, April 22
Auburn First Baptist Church: 7:30 p.m.
Bethlehem First United Methodist Church: 7 p.m. in the worship center.
Good Friday Events, April 22
Hope Baptist Church, Winder: a singing, 7 p.m. The gospel group “Threads of Hope” is featured.
Zion Baptist Church, Braselton: Communion Service, 7 p.m. Childcare for ages birth through three years will be provided.
Easter Egg Hunts, Saturday, April 23
Bethabra Baptist Church, Hoschton: “Kids Night Out,” 5 – 8 p.m. for ages two years through fifth grade. There will also be games, prizes, crafts, movie and dinner. Parents are welcome to stay or children can be left in care of the church. Pick-up time is 8 p.m.
Midway United Methodist Church, Auburn: free egg hunt, noon. A hot dog lunch in the fellowship hall will be served before the event.
Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, Statham: egg hunt, noon.
Easter Dramas, Saturday, April 23
Hoschton United Methodist Church: Easter drama, 6:30 p.m.
Easter Sunrise Services, April 24
St. Matthews Catholic Church, Winder: Fourth Annual Passion Walk, Friday, April 22, 5:30 p.m., on the church grounds. The community is invited to this performance by the St. Matthews Life Teen youth, which includes period costumes. Cancelled in the event of rain.
Auburn First Baptist: 7 a.m. under the pavilion, followed by a hot breakfast at 7:45 a.m. Sunday School is 9:30 a.m.; the lesson is “Encountering the Risen Lord.”
Bethlehem First United Methodist Church: 6:30 a.m. The United Methodist Men breakfast will follow at 7 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Winder: 7 a.m., breakfast will be served afterwards.
Hoschton United Methodist Church: services followed by a free pancake breakfast at 7:20 a.m.
Easter Communion Services, April 24
Bethlehem First United Methodist Church: 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. Worship services follow at 9:30 and 11 a.m.
Easter Services, April 24
Auburn First Baptist: Celebration of our Risen Lord and Savior, 10:45 a.m. No evening service.
Bethabra Baptist Church, Hoschton: special service, 10:30 a.m.
Bethlehem First Baptist Church: services at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. A celebration breakfast is from 9-10 a.m. Children ministries will be available
Faith Baptist Church, Winder: “Resurrection Service” Son rise service, 7:30 a.m., followed by breakfast.
Hoschton United Methodist Church: Worship Service, 11 a.m. The 9 a.m. service, Sunday school and Children’s church will not be held.
Sanctuary of the Holy Spirit, Winder: Breakfast fellowship, 9:15 a.m.; Services, 10 a.m. The DOC Youth will perform two dramas, “Arise My Love” and “Everything.” A special dedication of the Bell Tower in memory of Carl Bishop will also be held. Bishop “masterminded” the removal of the bell tower that caused an abatement letter to be issued on the building.
So as you sit around the feasting table with kith and kin this holy day.
Remember to raise a horn to the Goddess Ostara; but more importantly raise a horn to your ancestors. Because, despite the best efforts of the chuch to destroy our Heathen culture and world view.
