The City of Auburn still hasn't made a decision to amend a zoning ordinance to allow residents the right to own up to 12 chickens classified as pets.
Auburn Mayor Linda Blechingser told the public after a hearing on the matter Thursday that it was in the council's interest to accept City Attorney Jack Wilson's recommendation to postpone taking any action until the Georgia General Assembly comes back from its session April 14.
The proposed regulations would amend the current zoning ordinance's definition of poultry to allow for a single-family detached residence to keep chickens, not including roosters, ducks, geese or similar domesticated fowl in the rear or side yard.
