Winder Fire Chief Ray Mattison announced Monday that he is retiring from the post he has held since 1992.
“Today I am announcing my retirement effective July 1, 2011,” he said in a low-key announcement during the Winder City Council’s work session. “I will be changing my title from fire chief to city advocate or city cheerleader.”

Great timing. Ray is a smart man. Sure hope he is gearing up to run against the current joke of a mayor.
