BOE approves funds for construction projects, bus maintenance and band uniforms

The board also approved spending approximately $25,000 to get its school bus fleet in shape to pass state school bus inspections that are scheduled for April 18.

“There is a renewed awareness (at the state level) of inspections on buses,” Grant said. “We have buses that have had fluid leaks for years – not dangerous fluid leaks, just leaks. In the past, they have passed inspection, but this year we are anticipating more rigorous inspections and we think it is prudent to spend some money getting the leaks fixed before the state inspections.”

Apalachee High School Principal David McGee and Wildcat Band Director Matt Fuller made a plea to the board to loan the school $18,000 for the purchase of 165 new band uniforms.

“The normal life of a band uniform is seven years,” McGee said. “Our uniforms have 11 years on them and it is beginning to show. Our band program is growing and both of our high schools have superior band programs. We’re just hoping to keep our equipment and uniforms up to that standard.”
