For the first time in decades, there will be a grocery store in downtown Winder.
The doors of the new Piggly Wiggly Express open at 9 a.m. today and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow at 12:30 p.m.
The store is at 95 N. Broad St. in the building formerly occupied by the Dollar & More.
“Downtown Winder is fortunate to get a new grocery store,” said Mike Rice, chairman of the Winder Downtown Development Authority. “It’s been 22 years since we’ve had a grocery store downtown.”
