The City of Auburn presented architectural renderings from Morrison Design and Robert and Company at a public hearing Tuesday for the creation of a conference center/social event gathering place with a $2 million USDA loan.
Provided the loan is approved, the project will include building an estimated $1.1 million new structure on the property of the Hawthorne House and an estimated $350,000 renovation to the current house.
The city plans its renovation of the residential structure, which sits on approximately three acres of land, for civic use. Lucas said the home is intended to be a community-events venue that the public could rent out for events such as baby showers, bridal showers, and gourmet cooking and scrap booking. The plans also allow for space to display some of the historical artifacts from Auburn.
