Auburn to discuss buying Hawthorne House Tuesday night

The City of Auburn will hold a public hearing Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers regarding the USDA loan application for the purchase of the Hawthorne House. The public is encouraged to attend.

The city is interested in purchasing the two-story white home located at the corner of 4th Avenue and Hawthorne Avenue in order to restore it for the sustainable arts.

An Atlanta architectural firm will present blueprints for the design, which is said to include a turn-of-the-century style barn suited for social events, complete with kitchen facilities and restrooms.

The purchase of the Hawthorne House is part of the city’s downtown strategic development plan.

Why not spend the money wisely? Like some customer service classes for your Nazi criminal police department! They seem to forget they are public service not the fricking military! Wake up Auburn & Barrow county these are the real criminals! "Protect and serve" should be removed from all the police cars. "Harass and abuse" should be put in place. All police should be constantly drug tested also by a third party! Wake up people.

Cops labor (and I use the term loosely) under the delusion that they are military simply because they wear uniforms and call themselves "captain" etc. They love to refer to ordinary citizens as "civilians," which is exactly what they are, too. If these buzz-cut quasi-nazis want to be soldiers, then they should go to Afghanistan, where superiors will countenance murder of civilians and even take funny pictures with dead & maimed bodies.

SInce WHEN it is te responsibility of GOVERNMENT and the tax payers to provide a "sales" showcase for ARTIST... If it is a good deal then a BUSINESS MAN will make the purchase adn use it to make money and PAY tax NOT to be paid for WITH TAX removed by force from teh citizens.... BAD IDEA!

The payments on this would be over 10,000 per month. Plus insurance. Plus utilities.

Check with other cities around and see how little they make on renting out their similar buildings.

No fiscal conservative would support this.

why do you think they are tearing down the granite hotel in winder It will cost to much money to restore. I guess auburn did not get the memo on how bad barrow county is in the rear this year.
