In a dramatic public rebuke, the Barrow County Board of Commissioners pushed back Tuesday night against Rep. Terry England’s efforts to study changing the county government structure.
Despite being split among themselves on many issues, the BOC circled the wagons and voted 6-0 to ask Rep. England and the other members of the local legislative delegation to withdraw a bill that would create a 13-member study committee designed to recommend changes to how the county government is structured.
“The Board of Commissioners respectfully opposes the pursuit of the State Law and requests that Representative (Terry) England and the delegation immediately withdraw the State Law for consideration before it becomes law and that the Board of Commissioners be permitted to form its own advisory committee for consideration of potential modifications to the Barrow County Charter,” states the resolution.
The action sets the stage for what portends to be a major power struggle in the coming days over which group — the BOC or Rep. England and the county’s legislative delegation — will determine the future of the county government.

The county needs to change to a county manager style of government
The change needs to be put before the citizens in a vote
The change in the charter needs outside eyes looking at it to insure it is done correctly.
I don't think the current BOC has enough going on upstairs to do the job correctly.
You have to be involved to be effective in changing any type of government. The choice is up to all of us as to make a difference or not.
