Barrow still on the lookout for Athens shooting suspect

Barrow County law enforcement officials remain on the lookout for the suspect in the killing of one Athens policeman and the critical shooting of a second policeman.

The suspect, Jamie Hood of Winterville, allegedly shot and killed APD officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian and injured officer Tony Howard as the two searched for a suspect in an alleged kidnapping and carjacking that had occurred earlier in the day.

The shooting took place between Alps Drive and the Oconee River on the Atlanta Highway around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Hood's car was reportedly found Tuesday night in Clarke County.

When they catch him, they should just slap handcuffs on him, taze him for the hell of it, beat the crap out of him and hang him on the spot. He doesn't deserve a trial. He's obviously guilty. Strangle him with piano wire and film it for amusement.

Oh But what about the "accused" rights ? He is suppose to be innocent until proven guilty ! Thats what some "Lib-tards" will be crying.
Just like Nichols in Atlanta, why give them rights when you know they did it, no matter why they did it. Just give them the death penalty automatically within a week and then charge the perps family for the expenses for allowing their son to be a piece of manure.

No, it is a blue shirt !. I said give him a week if its an open and shut case, what more should you want. A long and expensive trial why he tries to come up with some defense about being on a slave ship or whatever Nichols used to get life ? I know he has "rights", however, if he pulled that 30-50yrs ago, would any murderer have such a long stay ?

It would be nice if you could just TRY not to live 30-50 years ago: the very definition of a reactionary. However, you seem deluded enough to equate that with bravery. I'm sure you feel right at home in Barrow county, where chickens, a dilapidated hotel and internecine squabbling over a putative airport are more important than filling a few lousy potholes.

No he wouldn't and furthermore, if he had done this years ago, the citizens would not have put up with it. I wish we were still in the times where the people would stand against something like this. Back in the day a posse would have gathered and the community would have taken care of this. I'm not talking about a lynching...well ok, in this case I am. It's time for the people to stop this kind of BS. Killing a police officer is not only killing a human but it is making a statement against society and its rules. So HE made the decision to throw out the rules. No rules = no rights. If he doesn't want to play by the rules then lets take him out of our game!

Please provide the proof showing he did this. When you provide substantive evidence and a jury convicts him, THEN you take him out of the game. I can't arbitrarily take someone out because I believe they did something wrong. But I go back to my original statement time and again... if he resists arrest when the police find him, they need to use the force necessary to keep themselves and others safe.

It was all caught on video. There's your trial. If trials are designed as a search for truth, and it was all caught on video, then why do we need a trial....due process I know. And you're right, just seems a BIG waste of money. The video doesn't lie. The accused (and his lawyers) certainly will.

I want them to catch this guy, too. If he decides to resist arrest and gets shot in the process, so be it. The mob mentality you seem to advocate is just wrong. Too many innocent people were tracked down and lynched by angry mobs for crimes they didn't commit. I certainly do not want a return to those times.

I'm sorry for the families of the officer who died and the one who was injured, but we do need to follow due process as he IS innocent until proven guilty. Its very interesting that conservatives normally spouting the virtues of the Constitution will be so quick to string someone up and ignore it. And that's coming FROM a conservative. Now if he were to resist, then the officers need to use whatever force necessary.

I can accuse you of shooting someone, does that mean you should be shot on sight with no chance of a trial? Regardless of whether I think this guy did it, we have a process in this country to try people for their crimes. As I said, if he resists, police need to do what is necessary to keep themselves and others safe, but if he is taken into custody peacefully then he should stand trial just like everyone else.

Accuse? The man shot the police officers. There is no accusations there BEN. He did I period. He is nothing more than toxic slime on this earth that needs to be gotten rid of. Do you know what an eye for an eye means? The bastard needs to be shot as many times as he shot both cops. Maybe you just don't care about anyone but BEN. Anon, you know nothing about me or my interests. You want the truth? I have multiple friends in law enforcement and I'm proud to know them. I also grew up with a friend as close to me as any blood relative who shot and killed a police officer. When he plead guilty, I put in a letter requesting the death penalty. If someone kills someone else, I fully believe if it was their intent to kill, they should be given the death penalty, period. I care about many others much more than myself and the reason you won't be on my jury is because I do not commit crimes (other than the occasional speeding ticket).

What you fail to read in my words Anon, is that I do not disagree that this man should die for his crimes. I just do not agree that it should be done without giving due process, one of the rights that has given you and I the ability to live freely throughout our lives. Believe it or not, we're on the same side in this, we just wish to take different roads to the same finish line.

I see folks on here with one breath say "string him up" and "take him out" and with the other breath talk about the Lord and peace. Yes it is pretty cut and dry that this man killed one officer and attempted to kill the other. That does not mean we are allowed to take the law that those two officers swore to uphold into our own hands. You can't justify it by saying he deserves it. While I believe that he should be tried and found guilty and condemmed to death. It is our courts and judicial system that MUST serve out that judgement. NOT US!

Too bad he got his friends to use their children as human shields so the cops couldnt execute this racist scumbag and save the county some tax dollars for his trial and 20 years behind bars before he is executed.
