The population of Barrow County grew by 50 percent in the last decade, according to Census numbers released Thursday. Barrow’s 2010 population was 69,367, a climb of 23,223 more people than in 2000.
Winder saw a 38 percent jump in population from 10,201 to 14,099 people.
Barrow’s minority populations saw a significant increase in the decade. The overall black population grew 76 percent to 7,889 in 2010; the Asian population grew 135 percent to 2,382; and Other Races, mostly Hispanic, grew 275 percent to 2,601.
Interestingly, both Auburn and Bethlehem recorded a decrease in population in the decade.
Braselton, which overlaps four counties including Barrow, had an increase of 522% to 7,511 people.
