For the second time in a month, a Barrow elementary school student has gotten into trouble for bringing an Airsoft gun to school.
This time, a Bethlehem Elementary School student brought an Airsoft gun onto a bus, where it accidentally went off, with a small plastic pellet striking another student in the face. The student was not injured and was seen by a school nurse.
The student who brought the gun onto the bus was taken into custody by a deputy with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with carrying a weapon onto school property and disrupting a public school. He was released to his parents.
Five witnesses were questioned about the incident, along with the victim and the student charged.
“This is the second similar incident in the Barrow County School System in less than a month,” said Sheriff Jud Smith. “Parents have the right and obligation to know what their children are taking to school. We at the sheriff’s office encourage parents to check their children’s backpacks and personal items before leaving the house.”
....to suppress... "To put an end to forcibly; subdue."
We have the right to bear arms, are you suggesting the government suppress the gun owning culture? How about we as parents become responsible for our children as well as ourselves, and accountable as well?? We surely don't need more government intervention in our daily lives!!!
I really hope you are just trying to torque up the locals, but you sound like a smart woman on the SPLOST and you should know why guns should NEVER be outlawed= Germany 1939, UK, Austrailia, Korea etc. All those countries either banned guns to keep their citizens from uprising or in a mannor to reduce crime, which it has backfired.
It is the responsible gun owners (Airsoft aside) that will pay the price for the few who do things. You cannot protect people from themselves or what they do, only you can control your actions
The government has alreadyu said that they would like for us all to be dependant on them for everything, and thats the way the country is going. Now if you want to launch a revolution then you would have to give up your standard of living and your possesions and maybe your life.
Many people say they would , I say if they would then they already would have.Once the governmenmt contriols everything we will all be like the serfs in the middle ages, indeed we are now , "it doesnt matter who is in control just as long as they dont bother my stuff and we have food to eat and a large screen plasma tv /home entertainment system.
Its time to "get in line like your daddy did" because you aint going to shake the world Pablo.
Look at the shooting recently in Arizona. If more people in the crowd were armed the threat could have been stopped sooner and fewer people would have been hurt. If you make guns illegal then the only gun owners will be the criminals. I believe if the criminal element knows that there are no guns inside your residence for you to protect yourself there will be an increase in crime.
If you really want to take away guns (which is the second amendment) then let’s not stop there. I sure the members of MADD will be happy to work with you in making alcohol illegal because drunk drivers cause serious accidents. Once alcohol is illegal then you can go after the smokers. If someone smokes cigarettes long enough it will have an effect on their health. I’m not sure about the statistics on how many get lung cancer, but on the side of every box is a written warning of its toxicity.
Yes I do agree with you that our government does want us dependent on them. Unfortunately our government is dependent on China. I wonder if China’s economy takes a turn for the worse, who will they depend on? For some reason our society is taken on more of a victim role then a responsible role. I’m sure Glock and Anheuser-Busch do not create their products with the hopes that someone will die as the result of using their product. Linda I hope when you wrote about suppressing a culture you weren’t wearing a white pointed hat with holes cut out for your eyes.
It is hard as a parent, however, most parents in this county expect the school system and government to raise their child for them, 10-20yrs ago, that was not the case.
If the government has to step in and protect people from themselves, then they should limit who repoduces (have an IQ test) and for every drunk driver, they should loose their car. You see how the government could keep on going if we let them control our rights !
The BOE and Dr. Creel can only do so much, implement policies that are only reactionary to such an issue, but it is the parent who is responsbile for teaching their children right from wrong and to make sure they understand what not to do
Already 97% of the total wealth in America is owned by fewer that 1% of our population. None of that one percent is in government and what they pay to lobbiests is why your mediacation costs so much, your schools sre failing and we are at war in a half doxen places at once.
Get a grip and redo the math. Times have changed.
And Linda, you may be the most ignorant person i have ever seen post here.
