Barrow unemployment rate jumps to 10.9%

Barrow County’s unemployment rate shot up in January to 10.9 percent, the same rate as January 2010.

January’s rate was a dramatic climb from December’s rate of 10 percent.

According to state data, there were 3,717 people unemployed in Barrow County in January.

Time to man up and take credit.

1977: President Jimmy Carter (D) signs the Community Reinvestment Act guaranteeing home loans to low-income families

1999: President Bill Clinton (D) puts the CRA on steroids, pushing Fannie & Freddie to increase the # of sub-prime loans.

2003: The White House calls Fannie & Freddie a systemic risk.

2003: Bush administration pushes Congress to enact new regulations.

2003: Barney Frank (D-CN) says Fannie & Freddie are not in crisis. He bashes Republicans for crying wolf and calls F & F financially sound.

Democrats block the Republicans-sponsored regulations legislation.

2005: Federal Reserve Chair Alan Greenspan voices a warning over Fannie & Freddie accounting. We are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk

2005: Sen. Schumer, (D-NY) says I think Fannie & Freddie over the years have done an incredibly job.

2006: Sen. John McCrazy (R-AZ) calls for reform. For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs F & F & it needs to be reformed NOW.

2006: Democrats again block reform legislation. 2008: housing market collapses Democrats blame the Republicans.

2009 Summers & Geithner decided to put the issue off?

NOW 33 years later, the housing market collapses. Fannie & Freddie ARE Bankrupting the USA.

Fortunately, here in the US a president cannot "start a war", anytime they feel like it.
They need the support of both houses, both democrats and republicans gave their support,
and Obama continues with buisness as usual.

No. The job rate is due to laziness...McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, KFC, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Publix, Target are all hiring. Not to mention 14 pages of jobs on monster.com

Bush, an immoral and incompetent drunken frat boy, started two illegal wars, cut taxes on his rich buddies, let corporations run wild, and passed an unfunded Rx drug-buying vote-pandering bill. Bush, who owes everything he ever accomplished to his family name, is a disgrace to the G.O.P.

Dear Lincoln,

During the 8 years of the George W. Bush Presidency the lowest annual unemployment rate was 4.61% in 2007, the highest annual unemployment rate was 5.76% in 2008. During Bush’s 8 years as President the average unemployment rate was 5.27%
It is also widely reported that gas prices have risen 67% since Obama took office.
Hows that for hope and change.
