Men charged with trafficking marijuana
Two men were charged with trafficking marijuana after Braselton police found a toolbox filled with the green leafy substance in their vehicle, according to an incident report.
An officer said that a during a traffic stop on Interstate 85, he could smell marijuana coming from the interior of a 2003 Honda Accord.
The officer questioned the vehicle’s two passengers, who gave conflicting stories about their recent whereabouts. One of the men said they had visited a strip club in Atlanta, while the other said they had been “down the road.”
The driver of the vehicle — identified as Jervis Contrel Shippy, 26, of Gaffney, S.C. —allowed the officer to pat him down before searching his car. The officer found a cell phone and a bag with suspected marijuana in Shippy’s pocket, according to an incident report.
During a search of the vehicle, an officer found a toolbox that was taped closed in the trunk. Inside the toolbox were two, large wrapped bricks of marijuana. Braselton police also said they found crack cocaine in the passenger’s coat pocket.
Shippy was charged with trafficking in marijuana and having possession of a controlled substance. The passenger — Miron Davetris Whisonant, 24, of Gaffney, S.C. — was also charged with trafficking marijuana. Both were taken to the Jackson County Jail.
Bleached clothing, popped tires follow end of relationship
The end of a relationship led a woman to pop the tires on her ex-boyfriend’s vehicle and pour bleach on his clothing, according to an incident report by the Braselton Police Department.
A man asked for police assistance while he moved out of a Park Bend Avenue residence. An officer said he noticed that a vehicle parked at the house had several items inside of it and that all of its tires were flat.
A woman then came out of the house and admitted to flattening the tires and offered to pay for the damage, according to an incident report. The man said he wanted an officer at the house while he removed his belongings.
While inside the residence, a fight started over ownership of a Xbox game. The officer tried to calm the man and woman down, when the man lifted a box containing his clothing that smelled like bleach.
The woman initially denied pouring bleach on the clothing, but later admitted to it and offered to pay for the damaged clothing.
The woman agreed to give the Xbox back, if the man didn’t press charges for the damage to the tires and clothes, according to an incident report.
The woman gave the man the Xbox and $80 to repair the tires. The man said he didn’t want the woman arrested because of children involved and that he received the game console.
Other Incidents
Other incidents reported to the Braselton Police Department last week included:
•terroristic threats at a Ga. Hwy. 211 address, where a business owner said a former business partner has been making threatening phone calls and sending threatening text messages. The owner said the partner pulled out of a potential business deal. The ex-partner has been demanding paperwork about the business, but the owner said the other man broke the deal. The ex-partner has also been calling the business owner’s office with the threats, which have included finding the “towel head” to “kiss his (expletive),” according to an incident report.
•damage to property at a Ga. Hwy. 211 address, where a woman said a juvenile broke a rear side glass window on a vehicle. The woman said the juvenile came to her shop and told her about the incident. The juvenile’s mother offered to pay for the damage. The woman said she didn’t want to file a juvenile complaint.
•damage to property on I-85, where a man said his vehicle was damaged by something falling off another vehicle in front of his vehicle. The man said he couldn’t maneuver around the object, which appeared to be a gate, and he hit it. The object caused two flat tires on the man’s vehicle, along with damage to the front bumper, a rim and fender area.
•damage to property on I-85, where a man’s vehicle was damaged by debris on the roadway. At the time, an officer was pulling over the man for a traffic violation. The man’s vehicle hit a recap tire, which caused moderate damage to the bottom part of the bumper and the undercarriage.
Braselton Arrests
The Braselton Police Department made the following arrests last week:
•Jeffrey Michael Harvey, 18, 2372 Crimson King Drive, Braselton, simple battery. Harvey became irate when his father didn’t allow him to take a car to the movies with a friend, according to an incident report. The father said he needed to complete his schoolwork. Harvey at one point punched and pushed his father, and pushed his mother, according to police. He was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
•Dennis S. Nelson, 61, 1400 Mall of Georgia Blvd., Apt. #217, Buford, open container of alcohol while operating a vehicle, failure to maintain lane and DUI. An officer said based on his observations during field sobriety tests, he believed that Nelson wasn’t safe to drive. Nelson’s vehicle was stopped near the Liberty Estates subdivision, where he said he lived. Nelson also said he had a drink at a local restaurant. An officer later found an open alcoholic drink in Nelson’s vehicle. He was taken to the Gwinnet County Detention Center.
