The Winder Police Department is hosting a town hall meeting March 17 for all of the people who live or work in the area of the city that is north of the railroad tracks and east of North Broad Street.
The 6:30 p.m. meeting will be held at White Oak Springs Baptist Church on East New Street in Winder.
The city’s new police chief, Dennis Dorsey, is planning to hold town hall meetings in each area of Winder as part of the implementation of his new “community policing” direction for the department.
“Town Hall meetings are a way for the Police Department to engage the community in two-way communication,” states a March 3 press release.
Discussion topics will include the crime statistics for the area and home safety tips. And participants will be invited to voice concerns to the police department’s command staff that will attend each area meeting.

This is a great way to bring Police And Citizens Together. The community oriented policing theory is a great way to reduce crime and bridge the gap between the PD and the citizens it serves. Great job Chief Dorsey!

I am waiting for my portion of the city's meeting with the Chief & Department. (I expect that one will occur at a later date?) I think this is a GOOD START, I hope it is productive, we need to support our police so they can better protect us. I want the PD on the citizens side, open to the people of Winder, I hope we continue in this direction.
