It was sometime in 1988 when I discovered the man known as Ludlow Porch.
An experiment of placing my radio on the AM dial (unheard of for teenagers then or now) led to my hearing his talk radio show on WSB (the 750 side). An interest in talk radio was forming and Ludlow’s unique brand of humor was a show which caught my attention more than most.

I remember Ludlow Porch and enjoyed his show a few times in my younger days as well. I appreciate Chris' fondness for Ludlow's show and books and thought this opinion column would have much more use to remembering Ludlow Porch had it not started dragging right-wing politics into the mix. I don't recall Ludlow Porch really sharing much of a political opinion, so why bring out politics here?

Because Ludlow was NOT like the ultra-ring wing talk shows we have to have rammed down our thoughts on a daily basis. Was Ludlow right wing, left wing or in between? The point is who knows. That is what was great about Ludlow. We need more talk show hosts like him today without all the right wing banter.

Back in the day, I called Ludlow a few times. Although not one of his regulars, I exchanged triva questions with him and even made him a VHS tape of an expanded version of RED RIVER -- for which I received a post card expressing his gratitude. Many times I ate at his restaurant located at 4 double 0 6 LaVista. He was a proud military veteran, which made his patriotism quite clear.

It was sad to see that Ludlow's death did not get the attention and tributes he deserved. I enjoyed him so much. I worked night shift and his shows were retun at night and since I worked alone, he was great company. May he rest in peace on that front porch in the sky.
