A Winder man was rushed to the Barrow Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his hand, according to Winder Police Department incident reports. The man told police that he recently purchased a new 9mm handgun and was trying to become more efficient in loading the magazine.
The man said he had the slide locked back on the gun and loaded a new magazine and released the slide when the gun fired.
The man claims that he didn’t even remember having his finger on the trigger.
The bullet went through the man’s left hand just below the fingers. He claims he had a couple glasses of wine, but was not intoxicated at the time.
The man’s wife said that she was upstairs and did not hear the gun fire but did hear her husband calling for help.
Pictures were taken of the man’s wound for evidence and officers were then led to the residence where the accident happened.
Police observed blood surrounding a black handgun on the garage floor along with a trail of blood leading inside.
The gun was turned over to the man’s adult son who is a detention officer in Gwinnett County.
