The new school buses for the Barrow County transportation department were introduced to drivers and officials on Jan. 21.
Director of transportation, Wanda Young, explained to the drivers that choosing which routes got the new buses was the most difficult part of the whole thing.
“It hurts me that I cannot give everyone a new bus,” said Young. “It took a lot of people losing sleep but we had to be sure that we were being fair.”
Jake Grant, assistant superintendant for facilities and operations, discussed with the group how thorough officials were in selecting the right ones.
“I really believe we are going to be the best in the state, these buses are nice and we spent a lot of time inspecting them,” said Grant. “We are satisfied we got the best in Barrow County, these buses are replacing older ones, but we hope to buy 30 buses this year.”
Grant explained that although the buses are nice that it was still the drivers who contribute. “The buses are a part of what make us great but it’s really you all that that make us great,” said Grant.
