On Jan. 9, Officers from the Auburn Police Department were sent a “be on the lookout” call for a red van.
A woman had called police and reported that a red van was following her and flashing his lights repeatedly.
According to the witness the subject, Daniel Whang, pulled in behind her and was flashing his high beams. The victim thought she was driving too slowly so she pulled into a neighborhood to let Whang pass.
After Whang passed the victims car he turned around and drove the other way. Minutes later the victim claims she saw the subject’s van approach again at a high rate of speed and that Whang began turning his headlights on and off again.
Police located the vehicle on 4th Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.
According to APD, Whang was unable to produce his drivers’s license and began talking about many different things unrelated to the event after being questioned. Whang stated that he was just on his way home.
After the victim gave a full statement more officers arrived on scene and Whang was arrested for aggressive driving.
Once back at the police department Whang stated that the victim had shown him her breasts and he thought she was a “working girl” and that he was following her in an attempt to solicit prostitution. Whang however was only charged with aggressive driving and transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center without further incident.
