Black ice on Barrow County roads has caused six wrecks since 7 a.m. today, according to Lt. Scott Dakin, public information officer for Barrow County Emergency Services.
In a call to the
Barrow Journal at 1:54 p.m. Jan. 13, he said: "We had two on Old Hog Mountain Road. I-85 has had two. We are on Loganville Highway now with our second one."
The icy spots are in shady areas where the sunshine can't get to the ice.
"And it's black ice, and people are not slowing down," Dakin said.
So far, there have been no injuries.
"We've been lucky," he said.
He said motorists need to do the following: "Slow it down and realize there's lot of black ice out there, and be very cautious in shady areas. The roadways have improved a lot, but they are still in an icy condition."
