Barrow County and the cities of Auburn, Carl and Statham will also take part in the project.
The project, which was proposed by Auburn mayor Linda Blechinger, is an attempt to make Barrow County more attractive to companies considering relocating to the area.
After Barrow County economic development director Linda Moore reported that she had received negative feedback from corporate prospects regarding the Hwy. 8 area, Blechinger and other Barrow County leaders met to determine what could be done to address the problem.
The result of that collaboration is the “Highway Eight Beautification and Safety Project.” The goal of the project is to develop an overall plan, or set of guidelines, that each governing agency will follow when implementing landscaping or other projects along the Hwy. 8 corridor.
Each local government will provide funding for the part of the project that falls within their jurisdiction and will have total control over what changes are made.
