Emergency Services: Please stay put

Dropping overnight temperatures will make travel Tuesday morning extremely hazardous. So Barrow County Emergency Services is urging residents not to venture out.

"We again advise everyone to stay home tonight and tomorrow," said Lt. Scott Dakin, BCES public information officer, noting that schools and government offices would be closed for a second day because of the hazardous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service is predicting intermittent freezing drizzle throughout the night. Even emergency vehicles are having problems negotiating the snow- and ice-packed roadways here and throughout metro Atlanta.

"We have had several units having problems making it down some roads, and (they) are taking it very slow," Dakin said.

"Call us if you really need us, and we will respond, but realize that it will take time for us to get to you," he added.

Because of the continuing precipitation and hazardous conditions, the department's Emergency Operation Center is remaining open for a second night.

“We are now in our third operational session and making some adjustments,” Dakin said. “We are doing well with keeping up with the weather and road conditions so far.”
