In 1998 the Atlanta Falcons were on a winning streak. We had a hot roster and fans were once again starting to get on the bandwagon and believe in the team.
One player in particular added a lot of spirit to the team with his signature dance.
When Jamal Anderson first did the dirty bird after scoring a touchdown fans and players didn’t really know what to think.
He began by rocking right to left and gyrating his arms then tucked them in to look like the wings of a bird.
To me and many others it looked more similar to what a chicken might do rather than a falcon, but that didn’t stop Jamal and eventually other players from doing his signature dance. After a while he began calling it the “Dirty Bird” and after that it was an NFL hit.

Matt, remember the Auburn player that got his team a 15 yard penalty for "excessive celebration," in the game against Oregon, just for saluting the fans in the end zone after scoring a touchdown on a long pass play? It almost cost Auburn the game. Pro foot ball referees, sometimes, also throw the penalty flag for excessive celebration and that is not a reason for further review.
