Don Stewart, Jackson Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) Jefferson district manager for 19 years, has announced he will retire in early 2011 following 20 years of service with the cooperative.
Scott Martin, Jefferson district senior commercial/industrial representative has been named to succeed Stewart. The district serves about 43,000 meters in Barrow, Jackson and Banks counties with 66 employees.
“Don made a big impact during his years of service, both to the communities in the Jefferson District and to our organization,” said Jim Crawford, vice president of customer/district services, in a statement. “He has overseen a period of tremendous growth in the Jefferson District, including a surge in commercial customers, and a 70 percent increase in meters in Barrow County alone over just the last 10 years. Under his leadership, the district rose to the challenge.
