Assistant superintendent of facilities Jake Grant gave a facilities update at the Tuesday night meeting of the Barrow County Board of Education.
Grant said WBHS received a permanent certificate of occupancy from both the fire marshal and the building inspector on Monday.
“Winder-Barrow High School is completely ours according to the authorities,” he said.
Grant also reported that the school system has received a draft copy of an application for $8.7 million in available construction funds from the state. Grant asked that the application be placed on the agenda for the August board of education meeting.
In other business, the board:
• received a financial status report regarding SPLOST income for the month of June. The school system received $752,800 last month or $19,000 under the debt service needed.
• approved the Perkins IV local plan and the Agricultural local plan pertaining to grant applications. The grants represent a potential for $618,300 in funding that would be used for career, technical and agricultural education.
• approved revisions to school policy referring to the transfer of credits from other school systems. The revisions were made to reflect changes in the state board of education policy.
• placed policy revisions to the gifted student program on the table for the next 30 days. The Barrow County gifted student program has not been revised since its adoption in 1998.
The board’s next meeting is August 5 at 7 p.m. The board meets at 179 West Athens Street in Winder.
