In late September, a small kitten was brought to Winder Animal Hospital after being thrown from a moving vehicle.
Her face was bloodied and bruised, and she was missing many of her baby teeth. Veterinarians operated on this kitten and she soon recovered. By early October, she was ready for adoption.
Brandie Brown of Winder saw this helpless little kitten and was touched by her tragic story. She soon adopted her and the kitten — now named Riley — has been a proud member of the Brown family for nearly 2 months.
Despite being thrown from a car, Riley is a happy, cuddly kitten full of vigor and life. While at the moment she can’t eat hard food easily because she is missing many of her bottom teeth, her adult teeth have started growing in and she will soon have all her teeth back.
She loves to chase the laser pointer light on the floor and attacking the plastic fish on the end of her fishing pole toy.
Not only does she enjoy human company, Riley loves Bailey, the family Golden Retriever, and Karlee, the family’s shy adopted cat.
Riley has helped bring the timid and cautious Karlee out of her shell and acting like a normal cat for the first time in her life.
Riley is a little kitten with a very big heart who brings liveliness to the room. Even though she has had a rough start to life, she has overcome her obstacles and lives a normal and affectionate life with a loving family who appreciates her.
•In 2004, Winder Animal Hospital established the Dr. James R. Gray Stray Animal Fund. Gray was a retired physician and breeder of champion Whippets and Italian Greyhounds including Earl, a winner at Westminster.
Because of his contributions, countless sick and injured stray cats and dogs of Barrow County have received treatment. Once these cats and dogs are rehabilitated, they are adopted into loving homes.
Donations to the fund help cover the cost of medications, medical supplies and laboratory tests. All medical and surgical services are donated by the staff and doctors.
